An exceptional and rare 'Olimpia' floor lamp designed by Carlo Forcolini for Artemide in 1980. A striking masterpiece of Italian postmodernism featuring an iconic eye-like optical composition with a red lens, circular glass diffuser, and sculptural cast iron and metal structure.
Designed by Carlo Forcolini in 1980 and produced by the legendary Milanese manufacturer Artemide, the 'Olimpia' floor lamp is a tour de force of Italian postmodern design. Its arresting composition centers on an eye-like motif: a transparent circular glass disc frames an unusual central optical element housing a vivid red lens, elevated upon an organically curved, sculptural metal stem supported by a heavy cast iron base. When illuminated, the lamp transforms into an atmospheric art piece. The central red light source casts a dramatic chromatic glow, while the upper sector of the thick glass disc acts as a reflector, diffusing soft, directional ambient light. Combining rigorous architectural geometry with surrealist flair, this rare collector's piece is fully marked by the manufacturer and stands as a definitive icon of 1980s design, equally suited to a sophisticated contemporary interior or a specialized museum collection.
